Getting to campus from John F. Kennedy International Airport (in New York)
Taxi/Apps: Seek taxi service from the designated taxi dispatch area. Do not accept a ride from any other sections of the airport. It is very important that you ask the driver approximately how much the trip will cost before you get into the taxi. (CAUTION: sometimes drivers take advantage of unsuspecting people.) You can expect the trip to NJIT to cost approximately USD 150-250 from JFK. Tell the driver you want to be taken to 150 Bleeker St #1982, Newark, NJ 07102 (NJIT's Campus Center) or the address where you will be staying.
Trains: Much cheaper than the taxi, but a lot more complicated way is to take the Airtrain out of the JFK airport, either to the Howard Beach or to the Jamaica Stations (there are only two directions, so you can't make a wrong choice, and in both cases those are the last stops). When exiting the Airtrain you will need to buy a ticket a from a machine to exit the gates. It is basically a NYC subway paper card, and you have the option to get one that already includes a subway fare. Depending on which station you get off at, you will take a blue line train to Manhattan.
From the Howard Beach station, it makes sense to take the A train to Fulton St stop, then switch to the PATH train to the Newark Penn station (not to be confused with New York Penn Station, the naming is historical). The PATH train costs the same as the NYC subway and you can use the NYC subway card to pay for it (assuming it has money on it). From there, follow the instructions in the "From Newark Penn Station" section below.
From the Jamaica station (actually called "Sutphin Blvd - Archer Av - JFK"), it makes sense to take the E train to the "34th St - Penn Station" subway station stop. On the way to the subway, make sure to go past the Long Island Rail Road (LLIR) tracks (its possible to take that those trains too but its more expensive and only slightly faster, so we are not going to discuss it). Once you get to the "34th St - Penn Station" station there you will need to exit the Subway, and then take any NJ Transit train from New York Penn Station that stops at the Newark Penn Station (again, sorry about the confusing naming). You can either buy a paper ticket from the machine, or you can use the NJ Transit App (note that the electronic ticket needs to be activated prior to boarding the train).
Alternatively, you can walk to the from the "34th St - Penn Station" subway station to the "33rd St." subway/PATH station, just one block away, and board the slightly cheaper / slower / complicated PATH train, also to the "Newark Penn" station. Note that you will need to switch trains either at "Grove St" (not to be confused with the "Newark Light Rail" station that has the same name) or at "Journal Square" stations to the PATH train that goes to Newark. Once you get to "Newark Penn" station, follow the instructions in the "From "Newark Penn Station"" section below.

The Newark Liberty International Airport is located five miles from the NJIT campus. A minibus (Newark Airlink) or taxi service connects the airport with Penn Station in Newark. Bus, city subway and taxi connections may be obtained at the station.
Taxi/Apps: Taxis are fairly affordable, especially if you carpool with friends. Seek service from the designated taxi dispatch area only. Do not accept a ride from any other sections of the airport. You can expect the trip to NJIT to cost approximately USD 25 from Newark International Airport, and last about 10-15mins. Tell the driver you want to be taken to 150 Bleeker St #1982, Newark, NJ 07102 (NJIT's Campus Center) or the address where you will be staying.
Train: Train service (NJ Transit) is available directly from Newark Liberty International Airport to Newark Penn Station (not to be confused with New York Penn Station, the naming is historical). Follow signs to Air Train to go to Newark Airport Train Station. From there, follow the instructions in the "From Newark Penn Station" section below. The staff at the train station will help you buy your ticket and direct you to the correct train track. From Newark Airport Train Station get off at Newark Penn Station. You can either buy a paper ticket from the machine (do NOT throw it away once you use it to exit the Airtrain, because you will need it for the NJ Transit train also), or you can use the NJ Transit App (note that the electronic ticket needs to be activated prior to boarding the train).
Buses: There are a couple of buses that go from the EWR terminals to Newark Penn station. From there, follow the instructions in the "From Newark Penn Station" section below. This is the most affordable option, and also takes about 15mins. Check your maps app tp determine which bus will come the soonest. It is recommended that you buy a ticket using the NJ Transit App (note that the electronic ticket needs to be activated prior to boarding the train).

You can get here by Amtrak or by NJ Transit (which connects with SEPTA in Trenton, if you are coming from Philly for example). You can also get here by bus, such as Greyhound and others. Wanderu is a good site to search for bus tickets.
Once you reach Newark Penn Station (not to be confused with New York Penn Station, the naming is historical), you can either walk (about 20 minutes, but don't do this in the dark), take a taxi, a bus (not recommended) or transfer to the Newark Light Rail (towards"Grove Street" or "Branchbrook Park", which is the same direction) and get off at the third stop at Warren Street/NJIT. The latter is the most popular option, so it is discussed in detail below:
Here is the Newark Light Rail Schedule: www.njtransit.com/light-rail-to or use the public transportation directions in the Google Maps app.
Here is what the Light Rail entrance looks like (take the stairs leading to underground, next to the McDonalds entrance at the Newark Penn station):
You have to ways to buy a ticket:
1) A paper ticket from a machine downstairs (IMPORTANT: it must be stamped prior to boarding the train, or you can get fined... look for the stamping machines prior to going to taking the next set of stairs leading further down to the track level). Also, do keep your ticket until you get fully exit the station to the street level, because some times the ticket enforcement can meet you on the stairs to the street)
OR
2) an electronic ticket using the NJ Transit App (IMPORTANT: must be activated prior to boarding the train... do it before you get underground, because internet access is needed to activate the ticket but you will lose it once you are underground)
Pro-Tip: Buy the "underground" fare ticket, which is the cheapest type (please note that this fare is not valid between 4-6pm only in the direction FROM Newark Penn Station towards NJIT... during this block of time you must use the "full" fare tickets).
Once you go down the stairs, go past the ticket machines and go to the very farthest door on your left that leads to the track level. Assuming you make it to the correct track, you can only board the correct train from it. But just to be sure, check that it is either going to "Grove St" (not to be confused with the "Grove St" PATH train station in Jersey City, NJ between Newark and NYC) or to "Branchbrook Park", and get off at the "Warren St" station. Make sure to look at the station names written on the wall, because the announcements are some times incorrect. Also, do NOT board the "Broad St" train train, which goes from a different track. But in case you do make this mistake, you can still walk to NJIT from the "Broad St" station (which is the last one on that route) within about 10mins. Below is a map for your guidance:
